“Colour is my language.
Memory is where I begin.”

I am a contemporary visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia.

I was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Melbourne in 2000 to study Fine Art at the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne. Looking back, I think that journey shaped more than my career—it shaped the way I see the world.

I paint because I'm curious. Curious about memory, about the emotions we carry without always realising it, and about the quiet moments that somehow stay with us long after they've passed. My work often begins with something small—a feeling, a place I've walked through, a conversation, a colour, or a fleeting memory that gently resurfaces.

Having lived between two cultures for much of my life, I've become fascinated by the spaces in between. The feeling of belonging in more than one place, yet never completely to either. Those in-between moments have become a quiet thread running through my work. They remind me that identity isn't fixed—it's layered, constantly shifting, and shaped by every place, every person, and every experience we carry with us.

I'm also deeply drawn to the way children experience the world. They don't overthink. They don't search for explanations. They simply notice, imagine and feel. I often try to return to that way of seeing when I paint—with openness, curiosity and trust.

I rarely begin a painting knowing exactly where it will end. I follow colour before anything else.

For me, colour isn't decoration. It's emotion before language. It's the first response, the instinct, the memory that arrives before words can explain it. Every painting becomes a conversation between intuition and reflection, between letting go and paying attention.

I work with abstract forms because they leave room—for interpretation, for memory, and for people to bring their own experiences into the work. I don't want to tell someone what to see. I want to create a space where they can pause, remember something of their own, or simply feel something they weren't expecting.

Over the years, I've also worked in theatre design, art direction, interior styling, graphic design and teaching. Each experience has taught me something different about storytelling, composition, space and human connection. They continue to influence the way I approach my practice today.

At its heart, my work is about connection. Between people. Between places. Between our past and present selves. Between what we remember and what we have become.

I'm still discovering what my paintings have to teach me. They often reveal things I didn't know I was carrying until I see them on the canvas.

So I keep showing up.

I keep exploring unknowns within me.
